Welcome to the official site of Shape Up Montana a team wellness program designed to get Montana to "Shape Up". This program takes health care by the horns by getting people involved in their wellness. Shape Up Montana works because of the team format; making fitness fun and creating accountability. Since 1990 Montana has steadily increased in obesity among adults and children. In 1990 Montana's adult population was less than 10% obese, in 1999 we were at 14.7%, in 2006 we hit 21.2%.The Big Sky State Games understands that these are trends we need to change. That's why we are encouraging all Montanans' to embrace the Shape Up Montana program.

Shape Up Montana is a fun, interactive  three-month team competition from February 1 - May 1 that encourages Montanans to develop healthy physical activity and eating habits. The teams are made up of a minimum of four and a maximum of ten people. We will recognize achievement in two separate categories: Weight Loss due to healthy, appropriate eating and physical activity and Accumulated Activity based on logging miles using an conversion chart. The 2008 Accumulated Activity category is divided into 4 groups: Beginner, Intermediate, Experienced and Professional Teams.  Each week the Shape Up Montana support team will send each team member activity articles, nutrition information, and yummy healthy recipes to help keep your team motivated. A resource page is also available for other valuable health and fitness information.

SUMMING UP SUM 2007!

lEveryone was excited to participate and it seemed to bring folks together for a cause. It was nice to see people inviting others from the teams to walk about during off times. As for myself, it was good to get started on a regime of exercise and to know that I will be continuing that program all through the summer months. Shapeup or Ship Out!, Havre Public Schools

lI was already into a long term pattern of working out 5 days a week. The materials on the web-site were interesting and created more knowledge for me, as well as awareness regarding ways I can do better. Team Badabing, U.S. Probation Office
l
Shape Up MT got me motivated to start exercising again and by being on a team I felt I needed to exercise even if I didn't want to, so I wouldn't let down my team.  Shape Shifters, State of Montana
l
Having the log sheet made me more aware of the exercising that I was doing and that I wanted to do better each month. Also with springtime coming up I will be doing more exercising with outdoor activities. I am going to continue to use a log sheet for my miles for the rest of the year. Thank you for a great program.
The Chosen Few, Big Timber

The program surprised everyone on our team on what a good motivator it was.  The little tips, articles and reminders were great and feeling like you were part of a larger effort really was a motivating factor. Showdown in the Rockies, Saint Patrick’s Hospital, Missoula
